Lufthansa 747-230F337 viewsLufthansa has allowed itself only low-key versions over the years. That also went for the group's company Lufthansa Cargo which wanted to start it's first trip around the the world on April 1,1998, with a bang. Thus,The Boeing 747-230F "Africa", registered D-ABZF,recieved a special livery to symbolize all thirteen destinations "between Cologne and Cologne".This livery was to communicate the so-called"time-defined services"by which Lufthansa Cargo guarantees fixed delivery times for the merchandise it transports. One such service is based on a commitment that wherever the customer lives, the goods will arrive by 8 a.m.whether in New York or Tokyo.

Pan Am 747-100280 views"The mother of all Jumbos the "primal" 747 with the livery of its its first customer,Pan American World Airways. As of 1965,Boeing developed-together with Pan Am-the civil version of what was initially a military widebody transporter project. The project was called 747,and three things had to be done as quickly as possible:an entirley new aircraft had to be designed and built, engine manufacturer Pratt and Whitney had to develop a turbine with more than twice the power than ever before, and innovative architecs were needed to prepare the worlds large airports as they had to redesign their clearing logistics.Pan Am signed a contract for initially twenty-one 747s and before and during the planes introductory phase, it was hit by an avalanch of expenses which-like almost everything related to this new aircraft-was much greater than anything seen before.nevertheless, the airline climbed to the peak of popularity when on January 21,1970 "Clipper Young America" took off for it's first scheduled flight from New York to London. For Pan Am, inspite the initial glory, the large 747 turned out to be a fatal choice, the airline had started to dig its own grave. The economic recession and the oil crisis in the early 70s,as well as severe management mistakes over the following years, led to the airlines final"knock-out" in December 1991.Built in 1970,N755PA,named "Clipper Sovereign of the Seas"was the twenty-sixth out of a total of twenty-nine 747-121 aircraft operated by Pan Am.
